Cocodrie

South of Houma are at least a half dozen small fishing communities. According to World Fishing Network’s Ultimate Fishing Town Contest, Cocodrie is one of the best. The town, whose name is derived from a Cajun French word for alligator, is at the end of the road for travelers headed towards the Gulf from Houma. It sits at the edge of freshwater country, offering a variety of options for anglers – it’s not uncommon to find visitors fly fishing, deep-sea fishing, inland fishing, and swamp fishing. And thanks to the Gulf climate, fishing is a year-round activity down here. Ask around at the local outfitters about what’s biting; something always is.
